# 21 Embracing The Legacy Of Sarah

“By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered Him faithful who had promised" (Heb 11:11).

As we close this series on Sarah, one simple but weighty truth remains: God always finishes what He starts. Sarah’s story began with longing, delay, confusion, and weakness, but it did not end there. God brought her story to an expectant end. And He is still in the business of doing the same for His people today.

Sarah’s life reminds us first that faith is not about perfection. It is about position. When we read Hebrews 11, it is striking that God highlights Sarah’s faith. This is the same Sarah who laughed when she heard she would bear a child in old age. The same Sarah who once tried to solve God’s promise through human effort. Yet heaven’s record does not center her failure. It centers the fact that she came to consider God faithful.

That should encourage us. As husbands, wives, parents, and believers, we may look back on moments where we did not respond well, where we doubted, rushed, feared, or tried to help God along. But Sarah’s story reminds us that our weakness does not have to be the final word. God is able to redeem a life that returns to trusting Him. Imperfect faith, when rightly placed, still matters to God.

Sarah also teaches us that obedience builds a future bigger than what we can presently see. When Isaac was finally born, it was not only the joy of a long-awaited son. It was the unfolding of a much greater purpose. Through that line would come a nation, and through that nation would come Christ. What looked like one woman’s delayed answer was part of God’s redemptive plan across generations.

This is why your obedience matters. The prayers you pray over your children, the values you hold in your marriage, the way you choose truth over compromise, and the quiet faithfulness you offer in hidden places; none of it is small. You may not yet see the full reach of your obedience, but God does. The legacy you are building today may extend far beyond your lifetime.

Then there is the lesson of delay. Sarah’s story makes it clear that delay is not the same as denial. Waiting is painful, especially when the promise concerns something close to your heart. But God often uses delay as a place of development. He does not merely prepare the blessing; He prepares the person who will carry it.

If Isaac had come early, Sarah would still have had a son. But through the waiting, she gained something deeper; an opportunity to know God as faithful beyond natural possibility. Her waiting season became a school of trust. Many of us would prefer a quick answer, but God is after more than quick relief. He is shaping faith, maturity, surrender, and depth.

And then, at last, Sarah laughed. But this time it was not the laughter of doubt. It was the laughter of joy. “God has made me laugh. And all who hear will laugh with me," she said. What began in pain ended in testimony. What began in barrenness ended in blessing.  He turns places of disappointment into places of joy and places of silence into places of praise.

Now the question is what you will do with her story. Sarah’s story is complete, but yours is still unfolding. This is not the time to remain passive. It is time to trust again, obey again, pray again, and build again. Recommit yourself to raising your children intentionally. Reinvest in your marriage. Refocus your life around God’s purpose. And remember that weakness does not disqualify you when grace is at work in you.

Your legacy does not begin when everything becomes perfect. It begins now. The God who called Sarah faithful is still calling. His daughters to walk with Him in faith, endure in hope, and receive with joy what He has promised.

Prayer:
Father, thank You because You are faithful to finish what You start. Thank You for the testimony of Sarah and for the hope it brings to my own journey. Help me to trust You in seasons of delay, to obey You in quiet places, and to believe You even when I do not yet see the promise fulfilled. Strengthen my marriage, guide me as I raise those You have entrusted to me, and let my life build a legacy that honors You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
